Why did you choose Brown?
How could I not? Brown is the best. We have a snarky sense of humor and love learning about things, no matter how random they are. That pretty much describes me. Also, we're a very diverse and accepting group, which I think is pretty cool. It's fun to learn from someone who reads different books or studies something different than I do.
Are you like the Browns in the books? Do you love books and have a tendency to daydream?
Yes. I knew right away when I read the books that if I was an Aes Sedai I'd be Brown. Studying and doing research forever just sounds awesome.
Do you have a favorite Brown Ajah character from the novels?
I think I'd have to say Saerin. Not only has she been a Sitter for a long time, she also hunts the Black Ajah and supports Egwene during her time at the Tower during the rebellion. Basically, she's pretty badass.
How long have you been a fan of the Wheel of Time series?
I read the first couple books when I was 12, but couldn't find the rest at the library despite wanting to read more. So I stopped reading them. Then my senior year of college I picked Eye of the World up again because I remembered liking it and read the rest of the series. So technically, since I was 12. I always thought the One Power was really cool.
How did you first get into the series?
Saw it at the library, had recently finished Lord of the Rings, and decided I wanted to read more fantasy. See above answer.
Who is your favorite "hero"?
Hmm... Egwene. I love her. She is so strong and such a good leader.
Favorite bad guy/gal?
I'm not sure. Maybe Graendal, she's delightfully decadent.
Favorite book and scene?
Egwene taking on the Seanchan in The Gathering Storm, which is also my favorite book.
If you were set down in Randland, who/what would you see yourself as? An Aes Sedai? Innkeeper? Seanchan Captain?
Either an Atha'an Miere, because I love the ocean and ships, or a Brown Aes Sedai, because books and research. Or being a seamstress, maybe.
How did you find TarValon.Net and what convinced you to stay and become a Senior Member?
I was googling Aes Sedai shawls and that brought me to the thread about it in the Hand Crafts forum. What convinced me to stay was 1) the real-life Tower experience! I think that's pretty cool how you have to work your way up through the ranks and 2) the people. I love the people here.
What do you do in "real life"?
I'm a graduate student. I study Mars. It's pretty cool, although quite stressful at times.
Do you have any hobbies?
Reading, sewing, video games.
What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?
While I'm working I mostly listen to instrumental music, preferably big band or Baroque/Classical music. I also have a secret passion for bluegrass--love the intricacy of it. As far as vocal music goes, I have pretty eclectic tastes, I guess. Mostly indie stuff, which is what they play on the radio here. Also musicals and jazz.
What are some of your favorite movies / television shows?
Psych, Scrubs, Bones, Futurama, Arrested Development, Parks and Rec, Firefly. Sensing a theme? I tend to prefer (good) funny shows. Oh, and Ashlyn got me hooked on Pretty Little Liars, which is just addictive. As far as movies go, I don't watch a whole lot of movies, but I enjoy Disney and Marvel movies. Oh, and Star Wars. And Lord of the Rings.
Aside from The Wheel of Time, what are a few of your favorite books/series?
Oh geez. Um. I have a lot of favorite books. It might be easier to list some of my favorite authors. Jasper Fforde, Tamora Pierce, Arthur C. Clarke, Jim Butcher, Scott Lynch, Brandon Sanderson, Kim Stanley Robinson, and Jacqueline Carey are probably my top favorites. I most read science fiction or fantasy.
What profession did you want to have when you were a kid?
I wanted to be a jockey or an astronaut.
